This collaborative artwork created by Chad Kouri and Veronica Corzo-Duchardt for Adidas’ Finish Line in-store activation highlights the body in motion with a design that showcases Chicago landscape and the body’s form. The design will celebrate the life of the creator abstracting and visualizing the movement of the body, the city in motion and the creativity of the mind. The result is a one of a kind, multi-layered art piece that represents the brand and the community.

I can’t even begin to express to you how honored and grateful I am to be a part of this incredible lineup of remarkable women.

The book interviews 100 women from all over the world, spanning various creative disciplines and backgrounds, who share their stories, advice, accomplishments, and mistakes. Also included are Kathleen Hanna, Carrie Brownstein, Kate Bornstein, Nikki Giovanni, Lizzo, Cameron Esposito, Melissa Harris-Perry, Tavi Gevinson, Laura Jane Grace, Neko Case, and Tina Roth Eisenberg, just to name a few.

This January the Chicago Design Museum commissioned me to create a billboard for their remake of a historic ad campaign “Great Ideas of Humanity.” The project asks contemporary artists to respond to quotes from important thinkers. I chose a quote from Johann Wolfgang Goethe: “There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.” In light of the tragic, heartbreaking summer we’ve just had and the state of our current election, this quote resonates with me more than ever. I hope it will act as a reminder for compassion and understanding as people in Chicago walk by it every day.

Cattrall Vineyards has been around since 1972, but this is the first release of the two sisters Julia and Laura, marking the next generation of Cattrall following in the footsteps of their ancestors.

Julia Cattrall approached me to create a label for her and her sister Laura's first release. 

They both wanted to create their own mark, while paying tribute to their family's history and the land from which it came. 

With the sisters' story in mind, as well as the wine which was to be an unfiltered Pinot Noir, I aspired to covey a sense of history, beauty, and depth. The background of the label is from a screen print I created from the back of two of my grandparents' photographs. 

Creating the visual for this label was a very collaborative process. Julia photographed a bird's nest near the winery, and even sent me a few by mail for me to photograph. Using these, I was able to create an image full of layer and depth to tell the story of the Cattrall Sisters. The label design was completed with a blue wax seal that matched the robin's blue eggs in the nest. 

The wallpapers are part of my larger Surface Histories project, which is based on photographs of surfaces that evoke the hidden stories of places I’ve traveled to. These two designs engage with Havana’s architectural facades, drawn from photographs I took on my trip to Cuba in 2009. I imagine these surfaces as portals through time, and as material evidence that connects us to individual and collective stories of a place. Through a process of abstraction, I transform these photographs into images that invite a conversation between textures. Then, I digitally augment and isolate particular layers and marks in order to bring a tactile sense of the material to the forefront. The two prints shown here are the results of that process.

Each wallpaper is available in custom sizes, which means that the image does not repeat; instead, it’s printed in mural style. The wallpaper itself adhesive fabric that can be custom made to fit in any area—and it’s re-positionable.

Andrew Jones of Field Recordings tried for years to perfect his two favorite varietals: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. After years of dissatisfying attempts, he finally broke though the wall with some awesome results. The design simultaneously evokes the winemaker’s struggle and his ultimate moment of clarity when he achieved the perfect blend. 

Shades of Pink is a private label wine created and designed from concept to bottle by Vinebureau.

Vinebureau is a collaborative venture with Stephen Sullivan of Vinejoy Chicago. Vinebureau is dedicated to designing contemporary story-driven brands—from concept to bottle—that stand out in a crowd.  

A commissioned print for the 10th Anniversary of Printers Ball. The theme for that year was “Chatter” reflecting both to the idea of talking and the printmaking term that refers to the marks leftover from the carving process. I used sugar to create the texture which I scanned and used to create the lettering and the main image for that year’s look.

time-honored. Artist abstracts the mark of time on everyday objects. Veronica Corzo-Duchardt pixelates and exaggerates decades of peeling paint in cool shades of blue and grey. On a recent trip to Havana, the artist was "struck by the layers of time on surfaces throughout the island—paint on the walls, hastily repaired cracks in the sidewalks—it made me think about all the stories they had witnessed." Initially captured in a photograph and replicated here as an original screenprint.

veronica corzo-duchardt. A Cuban-American artist and designer based in Chicago, Corzo-Duchardt is known for work that explores memory, heritage and culture embedded in overlooked objects. Her prints celebrate these lost histories and translate them into the present. "My process is based on collection and documentation. I use photographs to isolate original materials and then transform them into an abstract contemporary print."

Stationery design for Albany Park Theater Project.

This piece was commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, IL for the exhibition Peripheral Views: States of America. The exhibition ran from Jul 13 — Sep 30, 2012 and featured works by artists: Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin, Veronica Corzo-Duchardt, Martin Hyers & William Mebane, Liz Magic Laser, Michael Mergen, Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, Object Orange, Doug Rickard and Harry Shearer.

Veronica Corzo-Duchardt (Cuban-American, b. 1978) considers the increasing saturation of technological communication in American life with a newsprint takeaway that depicts obsolete technological devices that she personally owns. Images that juxtapose the old and new, the antiquated and the slightly outdated, investigate the impulse to collect and archive the past as a means of mitigating accelerated technological change and the changing ways we consume information.

Artist Veronica Corzo-Duchardt’s Neche Collection is a set of minimal, atmospheric prints and print / photo diptychs that retell the story of her grandfather Neche’s life across an archive of his precious, quotidian possessions: shoe horns, graph paper, toys. After Neche’s death, Veronica inherited items that spoke clearly about his heritage as a Cuban exile of Lebanese descent, and as a career accountant. She also inherited her grandfather’s desire to document. Making use of abstracted color fields, re-contextualized language and representative graphic renderings, Veronica translates these material touchstones into a paper narrative of her familial history.

The Neche Collection is a project that documents the objects collected by my grandfather Neche Eugenio Hadad, the stories they tell and the work it inspires. The daily blog and print series ran from April 15, 2011 – Oct 28, 2011.
